Welcome to Maria-Ward-Gymnasium Augsburg!
350 years ago the school was founded by two honorable ladies from England, Mary Ward and Mary Poyntz, as a Roman-Catholic all-girls convent school. At least until the seventies of the last century it was dubbed “die Englischen”.
Today the Mary Ward sisters (now called Congregatio Jesu) have got schools and other educational institutions in 44 other countries on the globe: for example in
Australia, China, India, Israel, Mexico, Peru, Russia and the USA. The school feels connected with this global community, even though it is no longer financed by the convent.
Now the Maria-Ward-Gymnasium is a mixed school (80 % girls, 20 % boys), it is state-approved and run by the central educational institution of the Augsburg diocese. It follows the official Bavarian curriculum, in years 10 – 12 all students use iPads in all lessons, and since September 2015 history has been taught in English in one year 9-class.
